There aren't much in the way of gimmicks. As a SHMUP this tends to be the kind of simple type of shooter I like the most: straight forward with lots of bullets! I was not expecting this game to be decent at all, but I was pleased. Still, it completely succeeds in doing what it is designed to do. I can only play 3 maps like this for so long. If you aren't offended by this content its a decent game but dunno about the lifespan of it. Being a survival shooter the game is chaotic and things go to shit quick. For a game that really moves fast this is too much to take in, process or play towards. There are also a lot of other things you see pop up that distract you. Also a certain weapon will yield more points if you use it at any given time and will rotate. You have to collect three of a kind of the many items that drop, and look at the HUD to see what they are. It's main issue is scoring is very complicated and hard to pull off the big points. You can collect a kind of upgrade for the sword that doesnt really seem to do much beyong giving it a distracting glow and net you more points. IT works but its extremly dangerous and you cannot cut through to collect powerups with it. The chaingun however does not last long and I find it annoying to switch back and forth between weapons (its a good way to get killed) Shotgun is great because you can pace yourself with it and collect ammo for it to avoid running out. the shotgun in this game is extremely satisfying and feels exactly like what you'd want in a Quake game, and the same can be said of the chaingun. a Melee weapon (it's a sword!) a shotgun and a chaingun. You can collect a kind of upgrade for the sword that doesnt … More This combined with the fact its hard to clear a path to them make the game quite hard to actually get the powerups/ammo/scoring items kills alone arent really enough to get a decent score in this game. You have maybe 2 passes around in a circle to get them. That's a little bit more than what happens when an enmy touches you. You can heal yourself from touching a cardboard cutout looking drop, but they look similiar to the 'magazine' cut outs which yield you 2000 points. They are all super small and basically have you running in a circle until you run out of health. It's got a lot of good aesthetic details all over the place and the gameplay is pretty simple and fun. It feels like a weird mix of Troma and ID. I haven't played Devil Daggers (yet) but that is supposedly what this is based off of. There are a few endings (and best I can tell they are based off a few secrets) 1 They move fast and you do not have a very long range with your cleaver. At times it feels less than linear (wrong paths will take you back a bit until you figure it out.)ĭancing Geisha show is a great reward for discovering a secret! It feels a little River City Ransom inspired in how.you can engage with the environment in some clever spots and there are a few easter eggs that are very amusing. It is actually one of the better games I've played for the NES that is a side scrolling action game. (You can even exploit the game by replicating food by walking just off the edge of the screen then coming back for another burger)īut this is a solid game. It plays a bit like it looks, and is a rather forgiving game because you have lots of halloween candy to eat and burgers.Īnd if you are in a tough spot you can continue, or use a password given to you at the end of each level. It has dozens of references to various horror movies. It's a rather cute game and rather funny. This is a NES game that's stylized in the SD (superdeformed) trend.
